Heart Park Studio©
Towering to our Future
Kiersten Dahl-Shetka
Hello MNCS Students and Parents,
Welcome to Heart Park Studio© where I create art and teach forgiveness. The "Art of Healing the Heart" © is the tag line of my studio and it is the intention that I use to start my projects. If you would like to know about one Art project that I have done, please take a look and listen...
Below is a series I have published about the process of how I make art with a community. While to me the whole process of creating is "the art", the remnant left is a bronze/steel sculpture with 44 bronze plaques called, Towering to Our Future. Within the 44 plaques is the visual art work of 44 community members. Each side of the Tower is a different age grouping. Each bronze plaque is a community member's visual story inspired by what they loved about their lives. My community sculpture is New Prague, Minnesota. The videos below show the art on the North side of the Tower; where past students of the project, 11 Adults (West side) and 11 Teenagers (South side), came to work with the Elders. Not only were the past students helpful in creating with the Elders a visual plaque, but they created friendships as well. (A side note: the East side of the Tower was created by 11 kids, 4 years old to 3rd grade.)
Enjoy the 2,000 degree bronze pour in number 5!
Also see bas-relief sculpting, mold making, the lost wax method in bronze casting and finishing the bronze with patina color and gold leaf; all used in the art project, Towering to the Future.

My Family:
I have two sons in college, a husband who teaches sculpture at Gustavus Adolphus College and one doggy. My son Cairo is studying medical sciences, loves travel, playing piano and baritone saxophone; and my son Sagan is into Physics, the stock market and skiing/skateboarding. Both boys are into organic gardening and cooking with their Dad and I and both boys do not like weeding or doing dishes!
My Education:
I have three majors: Art, Biology and Education and a Masters degree in Sculpture. I am interested in wellness, music/art and I love to create art and inspire our students! They also inspire me in the happiest art room!!! Oh, and I find heart formed rocks and heart shapes all the time. I tell the students that if they find a heart shaped rock, "they are loved just the way they are and they are right where they are suppose to be".
Peace, Health, Kindness and Gratitude to all of my amazing MNCS Families!
Heart shape from Your Art Teacher,
